We’ve compiled all the questions we frequently get asked… If you’re thinking about booking onto a class, workshop or hiring us for a hen/ birthday party or already have already booked and are wondering what to bring, have a quick look below
|“Whatever shall I wear?”
We encourage students to wear whatever they feel comfortable in. Shoes with a heel are not essential for burlesque and if you cannot comfortably walk in them please do not wear them in class (please note that heels higher than 3″ are not allowed) as you will be doing movements that you might not be used to doing in a heel. Clothes-wise, something comfortable – leggings, shorts, dance wear is great. Some students say they feel more the part by ‘going for it’ and wearing corsets, tea dresses, fascinators. It really is up to you – and dressing up is encouraged if you are having a hen or other celebration party with us and want to get into the spirit of things!
“What time should I arrive?”
Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of class so that we can start on time.
Where are the classes held?
All classes usually take place at Swansea Grand Theatre Studios, although we do use other venues, particularly in the case of hen parties. Please make sure you check the venue on the booking details.
I’ve got a group of Hens, how much are your parties and what can we expect?
We run a selection of parties for hens, birthdays and other girlie gatherings. Our party workshops usually run for two hours and include instruction in basic moves – or you may want to learn a routine or have a different skill workshop (you will confirm your preference at booking). Places are usually £20 per person (minimum of 10, bride goes free) if we provide the venue or £15 per person (minimum of 10, bride goes free) if you already have booked a venue. We also supply refreshments. When you are ready to confirm, we take a 25% deposit (non refundable) to secure your party, with the rest due on the day of your workshop.
Classes/workshops and masterclasses – what happens after I’ve paid for my place?
One of the teachers will be in touch to let you know what to bring / answer any questions you may have. Your paypal receipt acts as your “ticket” so please bring it to your first lesson or workshop. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds on the limited spaces but may be able to find someone to take your place (please let us know in this case!)
“I am under 18, can I still come?”
Sorry but, although we don’t engage in nudity, due to the legal system and the nature of burlesque we cannot teach minors.
“I am a boy, can I come to a workshop?”
We would love to host a boylesque workshop – if there are a group of you, get in touch!
“Can my boyfriend / a friend come and watch?”
No, purely because this is a lesson and some of the other participants may feel uncomfortable with an audience. Our classes our held in private studios so that everyone can feel comfortable.
“Will I be getting naked?”
Don’t worry – we carry out most of our classes, masterclasses and hen parties in clothing, so it’s up to the individual what to wear. However, there is an option on our 6 week courses to try out tasseling in a safe and secure environment (we usually wait til the last weeks of the course for this to happen just so everyone feels safe and a level of trust has been reached), however there is no pressure to reveal any part of the body and tasseling can still be achieved with pasties on a t shirt for those who wish to stay covered. We occasionally run a tasseling only masterclass, and it is the choice of the participants how much is revealed.
“I’m feeling a bit shy and thinking of hitting the pub for a few bracers before I come to the class…”
Unfortunately, due to the nature of a class, we cannot teach anyone who is under the influence of alcohol. We teach classes in a professional manner and expect all our students to conduct themselves appropriately. It is for your own safety that you do not consume alcohol before arriving at a class and anyone who appears intoxicated and unable to clearly respond to instruction will be asked to leave without a refund.
