We are looking forward to entertaining everyone with our ‘pop up cabaret’ at Sin City May 4th, supporting those bourbon-soaked gypsy bluesers The Urban Voodoo Machine. Here’s what we’ve got in store for you lucky lot:
Oh! Carolina, dubbed the ‘Sideshow Showgirl’ and winner of the 2015 World Burlesque Games Triple Crown, will be providing thrills and spills, with plenty of glitz and glamor combined as she performs antics which often includes nails of some variety – whether a bed of nails, or nail-embedded hoop. This is one pocket powerhouse you’ll not forget in a hurry.
Sandy Sure is bringing all the sparkle and a few quirky surprises as she will be unleashing a few characters. This award winner (Alternative Crown at the World Burlesque Games 2016 and Best Classic Act at the 2016 Brussels Burlesque Festival), she is a purveyor of disco, hollywood siren and bonkers characterisation (see Skeletor and Beetlejuice) all in one package!
Resident performer Lilly Laudanum is also an award winner (British Crown Of Burlesque at the World Burlesque Games 2015). Known for making the historical hysterical through well known (mostly dead!) burlesque characters. She is also a belly dancer with some 10+ years’ experience and training, and regularly showcases sword balancing skills.
Cariad Cwtch will be delving into her ever-expanding repertoire of colourful comedy characters with a spooky rendition of the Silent Hill nurse and performs ahead of her London Burlesque Festival date, while Lolly Follie brings a sense of drama with her homage to Film Noir’s femme fatale.
The pop-up show will be hosted by Lilly Laudanum with Flo – and you lucky people will get to see everything twice!
We will be opening the show, then after The Urban Voodoo Machine’s first set, we’ll be popping up again with more burlesque, cabaret and sideshow cheekiness before their final set!
A bit about The Urban Voodoo Machine
Not fallen under their bourbon-soaked, gypsy-blues and roll spell yet? Where the hell have you been? These boys and girls have been setting the music scene alight for the last 15 years with their black and red-clad fusion of junkyard blues, stinging rockabilly, mariachi horns, fiddles, sinister cabaret and punk rock tangos. Led by Paul-Ronney Angel, and driven by a double drum rhythm section, they “sound like a great night out in a dangerous part of town.”
Their latest tour marks the 15th anniversary of causing a sonic storm all across the world. They’ve hit Glastonbury, Download, Latitude, Bestival, Hard Rock Calling and toured with The Pogues and New York Dolls, to name a few achievements. And seeing them live really is an experience – with an act honed alongside the burlesque dancers, snake-charmers and fire-eaters they call friends, The UVM have become one of the greatest live acts in the country – terrifyingly bizarre, hysterically funny; a riot for the eyes and sensation for the ears: a sing-a-long, drink-a-long, clap-a-long affair.
